Barking dog disturbs a sleep-deprived employee every night, so he aims a motion-activated flood light into his neighbor's bedroom as revenge: 'If I’m awake, you’re awake too'

  • A few years ago I spent 4 weeks training my husky to not bark at night. If anyone has ever done this with a husky, it's work. Some dogs take a few days but Husky's aren't easy. She sleeps outside and she is really well behaved.

  • About 6 months ago my next door neighbor got a German shepherd. He's very barky but that breed is much more easily trained. He barks at everything and all night. I work rotating shifts and live in a state of perpetual sleep deprivation. I asked the neighbor several times to work with the dog, told them how to do it, offered to train the dog myself. Nothing.

  • The way their back yard is shaped, when the dog wants to bark at something in the front of the house, he comes to the side near my house. So I got a couple of 30,000 lumen flood lights and aimed the motion sensor to that spot. I used a small baffle to

  • narrow the motions sensor view to that spot and no other spot and aimed both lights at their bedroom window. Even with black out curtains I'm sure it makes the room light up. It's been a month, they wake up pretty often. If I'm awake, you're awake too. I'm happy to turn the lights off when the issue is resolved.

  • SingleIntention3437 One thing we disagree on is that I don't think dogs should be sleeping outside, even more so if they bark all night.

  • OP 4aceswilldoit Light bill is worth it. They haven't contacted me at all. They are fully aware of what's happening and they are fully aware of how to resolve this.

  • Temporary_Panda_1881 Damn if someone offered to help me train my dog (we dont have one yet) I'd be so stoked! Neighbour should definitely take up your offer!!!

  • simoneymonie How did you get your dog to stop barking at people walking by the house? They learn tricks really easy, but I can't figure out the barking.

  • OP 4aceswilldoit YouTube it. It's a process. My dog is food motivated which is how I did it. They need rewards for good behavior and bad behavior will extinguish over time. You can get a dog to poo in one corner of the yard and a lot of stuff. It just takes persistence. Dogs are not passive pets. Cats are passive. Dogs need work you'll mess them up.

  • GattonBiscuits ArtAcc I saw a post in another sub some days ago about a woman finding a device lodged in a spot of her fence, aimed at her house. Turns out it was a "dog deterrent" device, kind of like a dog whistle with more technology. It's orange and red, and has some metal parts on one side, maybe it can help you with your problem without your light bill going up.
