Every time employee takes a PTO day they still end up 40 hours/week to cover it, nullifying the PTO: 'I should've worked 24 hours but I worked double that'

When you take a day off… shouldn't you have that day off?

Sometimes life just isn't logical. We're asked to do things that don't fully make sense to us, and we just have to be okay with living with that. But that doesn't mean that we can't stand up for what we think is right and refuse to accept treatment that does not serve us. This is especially true in the workplace. If you don't assert yourself and your needs, you might end up being taken advantage of. This is true even when you're thinking about taking time off. Time off should be a right, not a privilege. Nobody can work day after day with no rest. We need something to break it up every once in a while and give us something to look forward to. That's why most salaried jobs come with a little something called paid time off.

That's our time to use as we wish without losing out on compensation. Sure, your employer could potentially deny your PTO if it's coming at an inconvenient time, but if you're requesting it far enough in advance, everything should be hunky dory. But that doesn't always solve the problem. There are still tricky ways that your company might try to trick you out of your hard-earned time off. They might ask you to still keep up with your normal workload, which doesn't quite make sense. How are you going to do the same work in a smaller frame of time?

This is, unfortunately, a common practice. You don't want to leave your team in a lurch, so you do your best to cover your daily tasks even when you're not there.
