Sister contacts adopted sibling's bio mom against her wishes, bio mom asks her for money instead of a relationship: ‘You don't get to give me away and then think I owe you something’

Sometimes, chosen family shows up for you in more ways than biological family ever could.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that our biological family members don't always have our best interests at heart. Empathy is a virtue, not something that can be implanted in oneself when one realizes their brain can't conjure it. Unfortunately for many of us, our true family lies with our friends, teachers, colleagues, and the like. Honestly, isn't it more special? They chose to be in our lives; it wasn't forced upon them.

There's a reason for everything, and that goes for adoptions, too. Oftentimes, biological parents do not have the means to raise a child correctly in this world, so they try to be as selfless as possible and give their baby a better chance at a happy, healthy life. Not everyone should be parents at the time they bring another life into this world, and letting a child go is a difficult decision.

Some people shouldn't ever be parents, unfortunately. The biological mother in this next story finally has the chance to reconnect with the child she surrendered at birth, but instead of a relationship, she seeks monetary compensation.   • “Family” has many meanings, and it's up to all of us to decide which definition we want to use in our daily lives. Would a family member jump at the chance for some extra cash rather than a big, meaningful hug with someone they share DNA with?

    How do you reconcile with the fact that, even after all these years, your biological mother couldn't be bothered with who you are and how you've grown? We all have a choice in this world, and the child's choice is to leave her biological mother outside of her inner circle. She might as well be a stranger.
