"My Manager Decided We Need 'Mandatory Fun' on Friday After Work"

Sure, back in the height of the Zoom era in 2o2o, online “parties” were a thing. You would have happy hours online, karaoke with friends online, etc. It was strange, but we needed something to remind us we existed in a society. However, that was over half a decade ago now, and we can finally admit that online parties are not fun. So when this manager decided to make a Friday “fun” meeting at the end of the day every week for her remote team, you better believe there were many moans and groans. Who wants to keep staring at bad screen when the weekend is so close??

Zoom meeting with entire company at the end of day -
Most of these employees opted to pretend like all of a sudden their internet was not working and they couldn't turn their cameras on or they had to stay on mute. Some just muscled through it in silence with a frown on their face. Personally, I think, if they wanted a party, show them a party: Mandatory online meeting? Okay, then I'm making myself a margarita. Sorry, you didn't want us on mute, so you are going to hear the blender. Oh? I thought this was supposed to be fun, what do you mean I can't drink on company time? Is this not a party? Maybe let me go live my life at the end of the day right before the weekend?
Maybe that's just me though…

You would think that the manager would read the room and understand boundaries as she works with a completely remote team. They opted for work-from-home for a reason. They don't want to “hang out” with their manager…
