Sorry, I just want to rant here. This baby boy left for his new "forever family" 2 months ago.

Yesterday, the new owners called me to ask if I would take him back, because he is not compatible with their lifestyle.
    via bimarajade
  • 04
Of course, I will take him back. I don't trust the new owners to find a suitable home for him.

I'm glad they called me. But I don't know what I will do. He is already 6 months old, so it is harder to find a new family for him, since everyone wants a small kitten.

I thought I vetted the current owners well; they were very enthusiastic and even traveled a significant distance to come for the kitten.

They had cats previously, so cat ownership was not something new for them. They had their own home, and they already had cat furniture.
    via bimarajade

They also wanted to get at least one more cat as of 2 weeks ago. I don't know what happened since, and I don't want to pry.

But I am just so so tired of looking for suitable people. Everyone I know who would be a great cat parent already has multiple cats and can't afford to adopt more.

The same is true for me. I wish someone would fall in love with him <3 Update: Thank you for all your comments!

I will post and update when he is back with me.

As mmdice as it is, having him back is so much better than him being dumped on the streets or given to someone horrible you didn't have a chance to vet yourself. He is such a cutie!! I love the shape of his little head. I hope he finds his real forever home soon

OP bimarajade Yes, I appreciate that the new owners called me. It is more responsible to admit that you can't care properly for a cat than just to dump him or ab e him.

pomcomic I do understand your frustration, but don't be so gloomy OP. Look at this sweet little baby boy, someone is bound to inevitably fall in love with him, don't you worry.

OP bimarajade Sorry, it was just a long and hard process to find a suitable family for him, and I'm not looking forward to doing it again. My resources are also limited, but I'll do my best. Also, my heart breaks for my little boy. At least he is coming back to me.

OP bimarajade I admit it, he is really energetic, so he needs lots of playtime. He is at that age when they want to play all night, and if someone doesn't tire him, I can imagine there would be problems.

Lucky-Remote-5842 You might be surprised. Some People actually don't want to deal with small kitten stage.

OP bimarajade In my experience, everybody wants to adopt a kitten, but they don't know what they will take on. They want the "cute" stage, but are not prepared for what it takes to tire a kitten. (Usually it takes another kitten) And I can see that there are many cats aged 6-8 months old back on the market, because the owners can't deal with them anymore. There are really few people who are self-aware enough to adopt a cat that is suitable for their lifestyle.

Eat_Around_the_Rosie You'll find someone! I adopted my voids when they were 3 and 4. Not everyone wants to have a kitten because it takes a lot of time and energy to train.

OP bimarajade I am in like 15 Facebook adoption groups, and we got many likes but not many applicants. Most of the people want 8-week-old kittens (even though at that age they should still be with their mum and siblings). And they want certain colors, and not black. Or if black, they want some exotic eye color....

puffin_ka Just a note - "getting a cat" and "getting a kitten "are very different in my experience. People sometimes forget how energetic kittens are
