If there is a hierarchy in place, then there can be some exchange of expectations. You have a certain amount of knowledge and expertise that you're expected to pass down to your underlings. But if you're on the same level, you should keep your priorities on your own work. You want to make sure that nobody is taking advantage of you just because you're willing to help. It's more common than you might think.
