We know that cats are unique and beautiful, but sometimes it's hard to remember just how much special they can look. Cats fur genetics are complex and interesting, and they contain the code to such marvelous combinations of colors and patterns on a cat's coat. And this little “two-faced” fella is no different in his different fur color. But he looks so special thanks to it.
This one cat looks like it got perfectly sliced down the middle by the universe’s paintbrush. This effect can happen when a cat is a genetic mosaic or chimera, meaning its body developed from two slightly different cell lines early in the embryonic stage. As the kitten grows, those cell groups spread across the body like territories on a map, including the face. Because fur color comes from pigment genes in those cells, each side can grow a different shade. The result is a cat that looks like it ran through the character creator and accidentally left the symmetry slider at zero.

That's not just a meme - cats really are serotonin machines. Studies do show that cats can boost people's serotonin levels by just being their fabulous and meowjestic selves. Petting our legs with a headbutt, pressing themselves on our chest while purring like a miniature tractor, showing us love by slow blinking and just being present with us (quietly) in the same space - all are proven to lower stress and just generally make us happy. Seriously, people who have never had a cat in their lives don't know the joy they bring into our lives. Literally. Scientifically proven.
