Seriously, we love hedgehogs around here at our humble Cheezburger HQ. They live on the margins between complete wild animals and pets - both shy, reserved, and mysterious, but also as cute as animals who are on their safe trajectory of domestication (have you heard this fact about raccoons and foxes?). These factors create an aura of untapped adorability that gives the hedgehogs a place amongst the cutie critters. Just to drive the point home - have you ever seen hedgehogs wearing crocheted hats? Despite hedgehogs being generally timid and shy rather than brave, we'd definitely still choose the cute hedgehog as our fighter over anyone else in this Over the Garden Wall-esque list of animal warriors. A hedgehog is not a fighter that'll represent your honor like a knight fighting for their princess, but they have the kind of defensive battle readiness of rolling into the cutest spikey ball you've ever seen, and being alive another day. And another day spent with a cute companion such as a hedgehog, continuing questing together, is better than a chaotic critter lost to the sword.
But, sure, it's better for them to multi-class into some other, long-ranged or defensive class, to be able to assist you in battle. Maybe a bard? A hedgehog with a lute sounds adorable. Or what about a plain ol' wizard? We bet a hedgehog companion would make a great Abjuration wizard (=one that specializes in defensive magic).

Despite us not speaking a word in Swedish, we've gone and done a short Google Translate research to find out that - yes, the Swedish word for hedgehog is igelkott, which literally translates to "leech cone" or "leech clump".
The word Igel is derived from an old term related to blodigel (leech) or snake. And then, the word Kott or Kotte refers to a pinecone or a small clump or cone-shaped object.
And that's how hedgehogs, or at least the Swedish ones, got their name!
