Man asks the online cat community for advice after a rotund feline spends months guarding his porch and waiting for an invitation to join the family: ‘We don't choose cats, they choose us.’

If there was ever a hard piece of evidence that cats are the ones who choose their humans and not the other way around - it's cat adoption stories such as this one.

There are many mysterious and meowgical ways in which the Cat Distribution System matches a cat to their forever homes. One of them can be described, in the lack of a better understanding by us, like a software installation in the cat. This software is wired to make the cat choose this home, their humans, and sort of adopt themselves into the domesticated life. All cats deserve a home, whether they're adopted by a patient person, or if the cat totally adopts themselves. And here, there's no doubt the cat is of the latter kind.

This cat here may or may not have taken control of this one man's porch, making it her kingdom for months. But then, just naturally as the hearts of the two expand - so did her will to expand her kingdom's reach. She wanted inside. Now, this man is already a cat pawrent, so he turned to the online cat community to seek advice on introducing the newcomer to his household.   • Just looking at this precious picture you see the connection this cute cat has with her chosen human. A cat who sprawls like this on a person, leg totally hanging in there, can only describe a cat who's head over heels with this specific human. We're so glad to know this man doesn't ignore the love bombing this cat is showering him with. It would be the “easy” route to dismiss her as another stray cat living near the property. But this man chose this cat just as much as she chose him. Truly, this adoption was meant to happen.

  • That statement is true. It's a known fact that domestic cats have much healthier and longer lives than cats that live on the streets. So it's not wrong to assume this lovely porch cat was saved from a danger that was bound to happen to her outside, living as a stray. But the happy ending we love is that she's on the fast lane of becoming a precious house princess - just like any cat out there deserves.

    MeowCatPlz MeowBack Well... I can't tell you what to do, but this is exactly how I got my forth cat lol. I fed him every day, and I would whistle for him and this guy came running, his continuous meow warbling with each hurried step. Look, I'm a big believer in destiny - corny as that may sound. This universe is so vast and mind boggling that it's kind of a miracle you two were to meet.

    I'd recommend taking them to a vet, get some blod tests to check for FIV or, more importantly, FeLV because those are contagious (think FIV as manageable HIV and FeLV as AIDS). Getting some distemper, rabies, and nextguard plus... well you're kinda all set to go since the big expense of neutering is done.

    If you already have cats, then it's honestly less expensive to have more than only one... usually strays have been socialized, so introducing them slowly to your existing colony wouldn't be hard if you follow the instructions...

    I always say: we don't choose cats, they choose us. My grandpa recently took in his annoying little kitten who kept tripping him the whole way to the post office because he wanted attention. Now all he talks about is his cat haha. So, take that what you will. It is your choice... but it seems like your little buddy made theirs.
