Ex-puppy mill momma dog adopted by loving family after spending years being confined to a kennel finally overcomes her hardship to become: ‘A relentlessly happy Cavalier today.’

Not all puppy mill mothers are lucky enough to be rescued and adopted by loving families, but the one in this story was that lucky. And to say that her first time being free warms the heart is an understatement.

Could you imagine what it is like to be a doggo who is responsible for bringing hundreds of puppies into the world throughout their lifetime? That experience alone sounds incredibly draining, and that does not take into account the squalor that most of these dog mommas live in throughout their lives. And unfortunately that is how this story's canine protagonist began her life, subjected to illness, terrible conditions and forced to make puppies for sale.

Thankfully though, this momma dog ended up finding herself rescued and soon scooped up into the arms of a loving family who took the time and patience to teach her what it is like to be a doggo who is deeply loved by their family. Yes, this! This is such a good point and one that is not covered often enough when discussing puppy mills and buying from breeders. If you have to go the route of a breeder you had at least do your due diligence to ensure that the puppy you are going to buy is at least coming from a mother who has not been subjected to horrifying conditions. And in far more cases than we are comfortable knowing about it is such that momma doggos are in kept in absolute squalor. So remember to always ask to see and meet your puppy’s momma dog in person before buying.

And this is one of the many examples that cause us to say what we said before. The reality is that momma dog can be in really rough shape and still provide puppies, after all it is what she was genetically designed to do. But that does not mean she has to do it while being in constant pain, fear and sickness. If anything she deserves the very best conditions and treatment to ensure her happiness and the wellbeing of her litters. But sadly many mothers, if not most mothers end up in a similar situation to Capt. Janeway, and most of them do not have the good fortune of being rescued and adopted.
