Yes, this! This is such a good point and one that is not covered often enough when discussing puppy mills and buying from breeders. If you have to go the route of a breeder you had at least do your due diligence to ensure that the puppy you are going to buy is at least coming from a mother who has not been subjected to horrifying conditions. And in far more cases than we are comfortable knowing about it is such that momma doggos are in kept in absolute squalor. So remember to always ask to see and meet your puppy’s momma dog in person before buying.

And this is one of the many examples that cause us to say what we said before. The reality is that momma dog can be in really rough shape and still provide puppies, after all it is what she was genetically designed to do. But that does not mean she has to do it while being in constant pain, fear and sickness. If anything she deserves the very best conditions and treatment to ensure her happiness and the wellbeing of her litters. But sadly many mothers, if not most mothers end up in a similar situation to Capt. Janeway, and most of them do not have the good fortune of being rescued and adopted.
