'So she just dumped her outside': Neighbor tells woman who found her super friendly abandoned cat that the cat is hers, but she had to "get rid of it" because of her daughter's asthma

Cat allergies may be a good enough reason to not adopt a cat, but they are not a good enough reason to throw the cat that you already have onto the street.

Being allergic to cats might actually be the worst thing in the world. And no, we are not exaggerating. If we were allergic, we would have been absolutely devastated. Not being able to interact with cats the way that we do right now would ruin our lives, basically. Our cats are too important to us. It's why we make sure, always, that our roommates are not allergic to cats. It's why we always tell potential partners that cats are our dealbreakers. If you are allergic to cats and cannot live with them, then we have no reason to continue dating.

And still, if the worst were to happen to us one day, if, for example, our child turned out dangerously allergic to cats, we're not sure what we would do, but we do know one thing that we would not do. We would never ever toss our cat out onto the street to fend for itself. Ever.

It will never stop shocking us to hear that people do this. We understand - as much as it pains us - that sometimes, cats have to be rehomed. In a situation like this, if the allergies really are impossible to handle, we would understand it. But we will never understand just tossing the cat out onto the street when there are so, so many better options.

If you are in a situation where you have to rehome, you can always look for a different home for a cat - a forever home or a foster home who would have more time to find an actual forever home for the kitten. And if that is too much, then you can always take the kitty to a shelter. And if that is too much, if you don't want to look for a shelter, then take the kitty to a vet, ask them to help. Anything is better than tossing an indoor cat onto the street to fend for itself for the first time in its life. There is a reason why this kitty was as friendly as it was with this women - it's because she was used to humans. Humans is what she knows. She wouldn't know how to fend for herself. It is lucky that she was found and taken as she was.
