Cat owner finds surprise inheritance stashed in grandmother’s vintage chair after her pet "accidentally" scratches a hole underneath: 'It wasn’t even about the money, it felt like one last gift from her'

Grandparents are known for collecting a lot of junk. Their houses are full of tchotchkes and knick-knacks that they've acquired over their long periods of life. Most of them are useless, and when you have to sort through their whole lives after they pass away, you have to decide what to keep and what's trash. But you never know what might secretly be worth a lot more than it seems.

After inheriting her grandmother's apartment, our purrfectly loving cat owner moved in and renovated the antique home. The only thing she kept was a beautiful vintage armchair, which her cat seemed to be obsessed with. The cat kept scratching at it from underneath, and when she went to fix it, something dropped from inside the chair. It turns out that her grandmother had hidden part of her inheritance inside and didn't tell anyone! Thanks, kitty!

Back in our grandparents' day, money and jewels were a lot more valuable than they are today. Earrings with rubies were not something the average person had, and $500 is not chump change. By our estimates, $500 in 1940 is roughly the equivalent of around $11,000! It may not mean that much now, but that was enough to change someone's life back then.

We are choosing to believe that she remembered that it was stashed there, and that she hoped her granddaughter would find it one day. That's our story, and we're sticking to it. But, now that we think about it, purrhaps she stored more jewels and money in other items in the apartment that, while her granddaughter was renovating, accidentally threw out. That would be the most unfortunate thing, to say the least.
