The medium matters as much as the message. Why not a face-to-face conversation? That could have been a calmer way to handle the situation. Less disturbing and more human. Sending an accusatory text message feels distant and one-sided, as if your truth were the only truth.
Receiving a long text message always feels unsettling, no matter if it comes from a friend, a partner, or your mom. Now imagine that coming from your employer, someone who has authority over your work and income. It turns what could have been a simple conversation into something far more serious and uncomfortable.

Not to mention that there was no attempt to ask questions first. The father skipped that step and went straight into an accusation without even hesitating and, most importantly, without evidence. He left no space for nuance, clarification, or a proper response. I would never accuse someone of theft without being 100% sure. It's disrespectful and totally out of line, especially when someone's job is at stake.

Exposing him to mom and stepping away was the most reasonable thing to do. He put her in a very difficult situation. I mean, he actually offered to cover her. From his wife. The situation couldn't be more inappropriate. It becomes really hard to feel comfortable and continue working in the same environment where trust has been broken, so walking away was the nanny's way of protecting her professional reputation and personal peace of mind.
