  • A young teacher stands in front of a blackboard as she calls on a student to speak.
  • My teacher scolded me for texting during school, so I told them why

It was a few minutes before class (we were standing in the hallway waiting), and my mom sent me a text. I open my phone to check what it is, and suddenly, my teacher is standing there, telling me to put the phone away.
  • I tell her that it'll be a quick second, but she doesn't care, and tries to take it away from me. She asks me "what could possibly be more important than
  • class? its not like its an emergancy or anything", she's probably thinking that I'm texting a friend or something stupid.
  • A young teacher speaks to her class full of middle school students.
  • So I reply with the truth: "Actually, it is. My grandmother is in the hospital, and my mom sent me a prayer for me to say to wish her well."
  • Let me tell you, the look on her face was PRICELESS. And considering my already bad relationship with this teacher?
  • Pure comedy gold. She quietly let me finish what I was doing, and told me next time to ask.
  • Edit: I need to clarify somethings. One, this was right BEFORE class, OUTSIDE the classroom. If you had read through it properly,
  • A young teacher looks over a student's shoulder to check his work.
  • you would've seen where I said that at the VERY beginning of the story. Second, it was actually at the beginning of the day, not during the middle. That misunderstanding is fine since I forgot to mention.
  • arnieb24. Reminds me of my freshman year of high school. I fell asleep during English class and my teacher yelled at me and asked if I didn't get enough sleep over the weekend (it was Monday).
  • So, I truthfully answered her that I had spent most of the weekend at the hospital since my dad had had a stroke Saturday morning. She got real quiet about it after that
  • A young teacher walks down the aisle in her classroom as her students work.
  • NightGlowArt ⚫ I'm a teacher and one of my students was texting mid class. So I asked him to stop and he told me he couldn't,
  • because he was texting with our country's national javelin coach. Now that was an oddly specific excuse, but the student was kind enough to immediately show
  • me the text that he might be competing in the upcoming European championships. Then he let me text the coach back to tell him that physics class was perhaps less urgent than the EC, but he still shouldn't expect an answer in the next forty or so minutes
  • evilo_olive. that reminds me of when my French teacher took my phone in my freshman year. my brother has pretty severe congenital health issues and has had a LOT of major surgeries, so i have always had my phone within reach as long as I've owned it.
  • someone in class got in trouble for playing a stupid game and the teacher walked around taking every phone within sight. i argued to keep mine on my desk,
  • not being touched but screen-up so i could see if a call came through from either parent (and explained why).
  • he seemed annoyed and said he would tell me if "anything came through that seemed urgent". I was VISIBLY stressed but didn't
  • like getting in trouble so I handed it over with a lot of confirmation that he swears he will keep an eye and tell me if either parent messages or calls.
  • after class he gives it back and starts the "see? was that really so hard?" speech, just in time for me to cut him off and tell him my dad called twice and texted three times. my mom was hospitalized. dude didn't take my phone again.
