In a world where black cats are the last ones to get adopted at the shelter, we're so glad to know that the CDS instills the courage in them to find homes on their own. Black cats are beautiful, but they just come with a historical bad PR. It has nothing to do with them, though - they were just caught up in a global misfortune.
You see, black cats are considered bad luck by some people, but that's purely due to medieval European superstitions that managed to survive into modern times. These superstitions linked them to witchcraft, demonology, and evil omens - despite them just being cats with black fur. It was believed that witches could transform into black cats or that the cats were "familiars" (=demonic assistants) sent to harm people. This irrational fear that started in Europe spread to North America during the colonial era. People crossing the world to find a better life brought their old superstitions with them, to the misfortune of black cats.
And that's why it's so important to look further than a cat's coat color. Their fur isn't the factor to determine whether they're going to be a great pet.

“The sweetest guy chose us! Never thought it would happen... he appeared in our driveway and didn't want to leave.”
This little guy showed up in our driveway last weekend. Walked right up onto the porch and flopped over for pets. It seemed like he'd been outside for awhile, he was quite skinny and the tip of his tail looks to be missing. I grabbed some food, water, and a carrier to set out just in case.
He got into the carrier immediately after eating and drinking, so my husband and I took him to check for a microchip and there was none. I posted to Facebook and Reddit but no one came forward as his owners, so we're keeping him!
His name is Tobias. He's settling in really well; he sat on my lap for the first time today, and is there again now as I'm typing :)

My life is a bit precarious now, but I pray the CDS delivers me a cat. That way, I’ll know I’m ready and able!

My void is a came from a litter born under my apartment. He is absolutely the sweetest pet I have ever had. He’s gigantic, weighs about 15 pounds. He’s tall and lanky and long and afraid of his shadow. Here’s my sweet doofus, Luke.

Sounds like my Hades. He was found in a Walmart parking lot 2 years ago this July at about 2 weeks old.

We had a similar CDS delivery recently (showed up in the driveway and wouldn’t leave), who also happens to be a Tobias (though he goes by Toby).
Hope your Tobias brings as much joy as ours does!

Our cat showed up on our 2nd floor landing demanding food, but more importantly, petting! The vet says she’s about 8 or 9 years old, chipped and neutered, but her previous people couldn’t be located. Her top weight is 7.1 lbs.
