Woman considers kicking out fiancé after he borrows £25k over years and never pays her back: 'I loaned money to buy my own engagement ring'

Relationships are supposed to be a partnership; if there are any inequalities within them, they'd better be ones that both people are OK with.

Even the most strident believers in everything being 50/50 have to accept that things cannot be like that 100% of the time. Life doesn't automatically split responsibilities down the middle, and there is only so much that can be done to counteract that. Sometimes getting obsessed over fairness is just a one-way ticket to resentment.

That being said, there is a sobering number of individuals out there who believe they are entitled to exploit their partner's time and money however they see fit. They see them as a resource first, and a person second. It can be a difficult thing to come to terms with when you are the one getting the least out of the relationship. Nonetheless, it is important to be honest with yourself unless you want to set yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment. These kinds of behaviors normally get worse instead of better, and most of us do best in a relationship where somebody is giving something to us and not just taking away. It's an unpleasant lesson, but a necessary one.
