A male employee sits and works on his laptop while taking a call on his cell phone

An employee decided to take on the responsibilities of their manager's role after their boss quit, and their team was worried that nobody else would be able to fulfil his duties. They spent two months doing all of his jobs while also trying to perform their own role at the same time.
Eventually, they met with the VP of the company, who informed them that they were happy with the job they were doing and had decided that they would not be looking for a new manager. They were to continue with both their roles with no increase in pay. They weren't sure where they could go from here.

My boss quit and the company decided I am the new manager (without the pay), so how do I stop doing two jobs?
