Employee Steps Up When Boss Quits, Management Decide to Let Them Keep the Role Without Increasing Their Salary

Acting your wage is not about laziness.

It is actually sound advice on how to prevent yourself from being taken advantage of. When it comes to progressing in a career versus slacking off, the balance can be a difficult one to strike: employers claim that they will recognize and reward those people who go above and beyond with their responsibilities, but then anybody who seems to be a little too good at their job is likely going to be stuck in the same position for as long as they can get away with it.

For those who hope to see a promotion or several happen at some point, this leaves them with a dilemma. If they don't make an effort, they are likely to stay where they are, but if they try too hard, they could also face the frustration of not getting an adequate reward for their work. It is even more annoying when they feel like they have no choice but to go the extra mile. The reality is that a boss or company is only going to recognize their efforts in a satisfactory way if it suits them, and there are plenty of occasions when this is not the case.
