I only show up on my scheduled time and apparently that’s considered late

I had been working at this server job for over a year now, and a month ago they got this new store manager who is an absolute . This manager is extremely strict and don't get me wrong; I don't mind strict bosses but this time it had caused me to lose my marble.
I was scheduled to work at 2:30 on Saturday. I never had been scheduled around that time but with the new manager and new hires, my schedule had been jumping here and there. I of course showed up exactly at 2:30 and the manager immediately stomped up to me and said "where were you?". I looked at him in confusion and said I was at home. Then he pointed at his watch "It's 2:30 you were supposed to show up at 2!".
I calmly claimed that I was scheduled at 2:30 and there was no reason for him to get all angry with me for showing up on time. That ticked him off apparently, and he pointed straight at me with his rat finger and explained that I was supposed to show up 30 minutes before my work time because 2 families needs to be sat down and I as the main server wasn't here "on time" to attend them.
Thats where it started to raise more of my confusion and I straight up said he should've scheduled me earlier if he expected me to work at 2 instead. Right after I said that he started to make a scene about how I had always been "picking on him” because I was cool with the previous manager. I was in disbelief and eventually moments later he told me he will personally fire me if I show up late again.
I never showed up the next day, and he wouldn't call me nonstop for days straight since then.

Cultured-Pearl-13 I think there's a difference between a rostered shift role and a typical corporate 9-5 job. I'd naturally expect someone to arrive 5 minutes early to put their bag away, clock in and be ready to start at their rostered time. But expecting staff to turn up 30 minutes early unpaid because of rostering or customer demand isn't reasonable. If the business needs 30 minutes of overlap, then roster and pay people for that time. That's a scheduling issue, not an employee issue.
LeseMajeste 1037 If you're scheduled to start at 2:30, but unwritten-expected to show up at 2, do you start getting paid at 2?
bortzo I've heard 10-15 minutes early to be briefed before your shift and be able to transfer tables over from daytime servers.. I've been in the serving industry for ten years. But 30 minutes?! H | no.
Embarrassed-Row-2025 Look them straight in the eye and say, sure I can show up early, clock in, work my shift, and you can decide, do I go home early or you pay my overtime... You're ready and working or are they asking you to be early cause they think you are not productive (aka getting ready)
No-Syrup6278 Ask him to send that in an email, to show up for 30 mins before shift, reply to clarify if paid or unpaid, save that email so you get that money when you quit or are let go after speaking to an employment lawyer
capt-bob I've read of people being required to start working 15 minutes early to set up before the store opened, and not be paid, the feds came after them for wage theft.
flawlessfortress Demanding you show up half an hour early unpaid is technically illegal anyway.
