Oh, so you bought groceries? That means it's quality control time for your cat! In a home ruled by cats, no grocery bag gets past security. Before the milk reaches the refrigerator and the cereal makes it to the pantry, a tiny feline inspector is already halfway inside the bag. 

Nope, privacy is not part of the inspection process, and neither is waiting for permission. Every item must be sniffed, every receipt must be crinkled, and every handle must be tested as a potential necklace. Your cat needs to know what is inside the bag, where it came from, and after that, they'd probably test it as their new sitting spot. They need to check that everything arrived safely. It's part of their job. Quality control takes time, and cats have standards to maintain. 

Before you can put anything away, a curious nose appears beside the box. Within seconds, your cat's paws are reaching into grocery bags, and their whiskers are brushing against the packaging. Then, after you put everything away, it turns out the packaging was more interesting than whatever was purchased. The paper bag becomes brand new furniture for your cat. Or sometimes, a temporary hiding place. 

Every cat has a different approach to the bag inspection. Some dive headfirst into the bags before their humans have removed a single item, while others keep a cautious distance, sniffing and stretching their necks toward the suspicious object. And then there are the cats that wait until you have unpacked everything so they can have the bag.
