• Not letting anyone visit your baby during his first months is very trendy right now, and by trendy I don’t mean wrong. I mean it’s something older generations don’t really get, probably because nobody did that when they were young. At the same time, grandmas tend to be really excited when a new grandson is born, and they can’t help wanting to participate. When they think their son’s partner is pushing them aside, they can get really defensive; I’ve seen that happen in my family and in other close families as well.

• At any rate, I don’t think the picture issue is about that; she was, in fact, included in every other picture. The mother-in-law wanted to take a picture with everyone from her side of the family; that’s super normal. I don’t deny the wife might be feeling, intuitively, that some underlying competition is taking place, but I don’t think she should focus on the picture incident to figure that out. What do you think?
