Family purposely adopts adult cats instead of kittens until one heartbreaking roadside rescue changes everything

Man plans, the CDS laughs, and suddenly there's another kitten in the house.

Back in March, this family intentionally adopted two adult cats from their local shelter. Kittens were adorable, but with a busy schedule, grown cats simply made more sense. Responsible decision made. Household complete. Case closed. At least, that was the plan.

Then June arrived.

While heading to dinner with their son one Saturday night, they spotted a small kitten sitting weak and alone in the middle of the road. He wasn't even weaned yet. A nearby house had multiple cats and kittens roaming outside, and a friend explained that the situation was an ongoing neighborhood problem. The cats reportedly bred constantly, seemed neglected, and were sometimes hit by cars.

Not that anyone needed convincing. This baby was already coming home.

Suddenly, the person who specifically chose adult cats was bottle-feeding a kitten and making vet appointments. The CDS must have gotten a good laugh out of that one.

His left eye was especially concerning. The vet initially warned that he might never regain vision in it. It remains partially cloudy, but his hooman can tell from the way he plays that he has at least some sight. Even better, the sick little kitten found in the road is now healthy and thriving.

The two resident boys weren't exactly rolling out the welcome mat at first, either. Once properly introduced, though, everything changed. They bonded with their tiny brother and started playing with him and teaching him the extremely important art of being an indoor cat.

Three cats definitely weren't part of the original plan, but neither was leaving a helpless kitten in the road.

  • Congrats on gaining another furmily member! He may not have been part of the original plan, but the CDS clearly decided there was room for one more. This little guy went from sitting weak and alone in the road to having a safe home, two older feline brothers, and hoomans willing to nurse him back to health. That’s quite the upgrade. Three cats might not have been what anyone expected, but it sounds like this tiny addition fits into the family purrfectly.

  • What a happy ending to this little guy’s rescue story. He went from sitting weak and alone in the middle of the road to being healthy, loved, and surrounded by a whole furmily. Even his eye has improved after there were fears he might never regain any vision. Add in two big feline brothers who have accepted him and are teaching him how to indoor cat, and things couldn’t have worked out much better. The CDS definitely knew where to send this little one.

  • It’s so sweet that the two resident cats have officially accepted their tiny new brother. They may have kept their distance at first, but it didn’t take long before curiosity turned into a real bond. Now they’re playing with him and teaching him all the important lessons that come with being an indoor kitty. This little guy didn’t just get rescued from the road, he gained two big brothers to show him the ropes.
