All pet pawrents know that trusting your animal companion's gut is the right thing to do. And that's especially true when it comes to choosing "the one", your one, your other half, your forever person. Just imagine your dog growling at the guy you started dating with no apparent reason, your cat hiding from your new girlfriend even though they're usually a social butterfly, or your pet bunny showing signs of fear and distress when your partner enters a room. All of these are not just "animals being animals" - they are red flags to be considered thoughtfully. Our pets know us just as much as we know them.

But every coin has two sides, and a pet-meeting-partner situation can turn out to be the exact opposite of this. Just like this one Reddit boyfriend who shared with the online canine community the adorable obsession his dog developed with his girlfriend immediately after she moved in. If that's not the biggest green flag a pet pawrent can receive from their very own pet child, I don't know what is. Sure, some dogs are of the "burglar breaks in, dog brings them a toy" type, but I'm not sure this is the situation we're looking at here.

Some cases are a little more grey, but not because of the person - because of the animals. Take my cat, for example: she's an absolute sweetheart, loves cuddles and attention, and won't shy away from being a petting glue. But when it's a person she doesn't know, she's suspicious. The suspicion can disappear within two minutes if said new person gives her a treat, but this is the initial disposition she has towards humans she doesn't know. So, naturally, when my then-girlfriend (now-wife) visited for the first few times - my cat was nowhere to be seen, hiding. Now the situation is much different, and my cat is in love with her. And it's nice to know my first child, my cat, accepts my wife as her other mother without a doubt. I love them both so much.
