What are the unwritten rules every good neighbor should follow?

By now, we all know that having a good relationship with your neighbor is not something that comes easily. For some, it's not a complicated task: they know what to do and end up having the best relationship ever. But for others, their neighbors can be a total nightmare, and sometimes the issues that arise feel personal. And let's be honest: we all want to live in peace, especially in our own houses, and neighbors can interfere.

Someone on the internet asked what those unspoken rules are that help you have the best relationship with your neighbors. What's the key to having a good relationship with them?

Before sharing their answers, I want to tell a personal story that feels relatable. When I was still living with my parents, the family that lived next door to us had two kids who were around my age. Great people. One time, the son decided to host a party since it was his birthday, and instead of just throwing the party with no hesitation, the prior afternoon, he came over and explained what would happen. This was a great move, because we knew what to expect and when the event would be over.

That's the unspoken rule that I want to share with you today: sometimes you need to be considerate of the other, especially if you're hosting something out of the ordinary. The same can happen when doing renovations or construction. I think involving them in the process and clarifying what's going on can prevent future problems. And if they are reasonable people, they'll understand.

But besides this, the end goal with neighbors is the fact that we all want to have a nice neighborhood and enjoy our lives without being bored. That's why having a good relationship with the people next door is crucial: there's nothing that feels better than coming home and knowing that there will be peace and silence waiting for you…
