Sounds like a dream manager to me

I don't know whether the original poster was complaining or what. I don't see any flaws in his methods; personally, I wish all jobs were like this.

Maybe I'm speaking only for myself, and I know it's no good to generalize, but being flexible around work hours as long as deadlines are met is the best strategy a management team can use.

I used to struggle a lot with things like these. I often finished my work early in many jobs, then had to wait long, greyish hours to get out of there because I wasn't supposed to leave until 5 pm. That never sat right with me, but it was one of those rules you just have to play along with because how much you complained about it wouldn't make a difference.

Back in the day, I would have been grateful to hear I could work at any hour as long as things got done, even if that time were limited to a frame. I understand that things depending on you can sound scary, but it is the basis of any well-functioning team.

I suppose management will be there if you have any doubts or complaints; it's their job. Nonetheless, you won't be completely alone, but you will be completely responsible.

We should normalize that some days we need to work slower and other days faster. Some days we need to work earlier, other days later. It's not the end of the world, and companies usually can manage. If we started trusting each other and respecting timings, I think the workplace would be much more rewarding, and we wouldn't feel so stressed.

After all, we would produce more, work better, and be less stressed, so we would be more proactive; isn't that everything that matters to the companies that hire us?
