Manager told me to "just deal with it" when the AC broke, then wrote me up for wearing a non- uniform shirt
I work in a kitchen. Not a fancy one a fast-casual place. Burgers, fries, the usual. The uniform is a black polo. Everyone wears it. It's fine.

Last week, our AC d d. Not "struggling." De d. The kitchen hit 97 degrees by noon. We had two fans running, both pointed at the fry station, and they were just pushing hot air around. I was sweating through my polo by 11 AM.

I asked my manager if I could take off the polo and work in my undershirt a plain white t-shirt ―just until the AC got fixed. He said, "No. Uniform policy is uniform policy."

I said, "It's 97 degrees. I'm literally dripping into the food."

He said, "Just deal with it. Everyone's hot."

Everyone's hot. Okay. So we all just marinate in our own sweat and pretend it's fine.

By 1 PM, I couldn't take it anymore. I went to the bathroom, took off the soaked polo, and put it back on inside out — the inside was at least dry-ish. I figured that was a reasonable compromise. Still a black shirt. Still technically the uniform. Just... reversed.

Manager saw me five minutes later. "What are you doing? That's not the uniform."

I said, "The other side is soaked. This side is dry."

He said, "You're out of uniform. Go home and change."

Go home. And change. On a 97- degree day. In the middle of a lunch rush. So I could put on another black polo that would be soaked within twenty minutes.

I said, "I'm not going home. I'll take the write-up."

And I did. Written warning for "failure to adhere to dress code."

I asked him if there was a policy for extreme heat. He said, "We follow the uniform policy."

So the uniform matters more than heat exhaustion. The dress code matters more than basic human comfort. And I got a warning for turning my shirt inside out because the building was trying to cook us.

Anyone else get disciplined for trying to survive a workplace that won't fix basic stuff?

Deep Sea_Crab_1 My wife was a pastry chef and worked with chocolate. AC went out and it was literally 100F. General manager talked to her like a child. "We have so many tooth picks. These go to food, these go to salaries...." It turned out to be a $300 repair. That's when she started job hunting.

Neither_Loan6419 I would have turned in my uniform shirt, exited through the dining room, announced a viral youtube moment coming right up and telling everyone start recording, and then loudly apologized for dripping sweat into everyone's dinner, then left, never to return.
