Or you can just grab a paper and write on it.

The meals I'm planning sound great while I'm shopping. The person who has to wash, chop, cook, and clean up afterward is less enthusiastic. But that's not what I think when I save an “easy recipe” on my Instagram reels. Reality kicks in sometime later.

I need a proper breakfast. We can't negotiate there. Breakfast is one of the most important meals for me, but then again: wanting to eat it and wanting to prepare it first thing in the morning are two separate matters. Sometimes I wake up, consider everything I could make, and end up having yogurt instead because it's already prepared. It comes in its own container. It's fast. It's easy. Some days I feel like that.

Then there are the evenings when I finish working or studying and open the fridge, hoping someone has cooked something. Nobody has, which makes sense, considering I live alone. All the ingredients are there, so I can't say there's nothing to eat. There's plenty. What's missing is someone who wants to turn it into dinner. And nope, opening the fridge again five minutes later doesn't seem to help.

That's when the frozen chicken nuggets start making sense. I put them in the oven and I can have dinner without following a video while overthinking every step. After a long day, I appreciate food that asks so little of me.

I do enjoy making something nice when I'm in the mood. Breakfast and afternoon snacks are where my enthusiasm lives. I have a sweet tooth, so making oatmeal cookies feels like a much more appealing project. I get to enjoy the process, and there are cookies at the end! I like having something homemade and sweet in the afternoon. But enjoying baking doesn't mean I'll enjoy making dinner later. I'm learning to shop for the energy I'll actually have. Some vegetables, some easy options, and something sweet. That's what my fridge looks like.
