  • So apparently my friend decided I needed a boyfriend more than I needed to know who's coming to my own dinner. I had six people over Friday. One friend asked last minute if she could bring someone. I said no because the table was already full. She showed up with this guy anyway.
  • He handed me flowers. Actual flowers. Then said he'd been looking forward to meeting me because my friend told him I thought he was cute. I've literally never seen this man before. I was so confused that I just said I was sorry but nobody told me this was supposed to be a date. He looked absolutely mortified, apologized and left.

  • My friend was P ED. Apparently she'd been talking me up to this guy for weeks and thought we'd make a great couple. She said I could've just gone along with it instead of embarrassing him. I genuinely feel terrible for the guy because he did nothing wrong. But what exactly was I supposed to do? Pretend I'd been expecting him when I'd specifically said she couldn't bring anyone?

  • One of our mutual friends thinks I could've handled it privately instead of saying it in front of everyone, which is the only part I'm second guessing.

  • Any_Assumption_2023 She embarrassed herself. Who in their right minds sets someone up on a date without telling Both parties its a date?? Additionally, who does that to a dinner party that they've already been told had a full table?? Please tell me you're making this up.

  • Pur1wise Bringing a blind date for the host of a dinner party is not only ride but also dumb. The host is busy getting food out in time and cleaning up and making sure things run smoothly and everyone is having a great time. She's too busy to chat with a potential suitor anyway! Your friend is the definite jork here. She put you on the spot so you

  • politely refused the shituation. Could you have played congenial host and squeezed everyone up? Maybe, but it would have been an obvious and uncomfortable situation. The dude would have felt the resentment and been put out when you barely spoke with him all evening; leaving him thinking that you didn't like him. What you did was just ripping the Band-Aid off quickly instead of slowly dragging out the irritation. You were not obliged to cover for your clueless, r de friend.

  • ItsTankGirl Your friend is a j rk and a weirdo. I'm not a fan of her giving your home address to a stranger, without telling you or even checking with you. I'm also not a fan of her expecting that you would disregard your own boundaries, in exchange for a strangers comfort or for her expectations.

  • If it were me I'd ditch this friend. And tbh I hope that he does too for the way that she blindsided him like that.

  • MyDirtyAlt79 Your friend made this a public situation by bringing someone after being told not to. An ambush date is a move overall and if she thought you two would have been great together then she should have told you about him as much as she told him about you, giving you the same opportunity to decide as he was given.

  • deFleury He brought flowers, he sounds nice! I'd have sent the friend away.

  • DayOfTheMarsupial "One of our mutual friends thinks I could've handled it privately instead of saying it in front of everyone, which is the only part I'm second guessing." No. How would that have worked? You literally told her no already, letting her get away with it in the moment and handling it privately later would have just have told your friend that it was okay and that she could just keep doing these sorts of things.

  • ProfessionOk60 NTJ, yeah you addressed it right then, but I can imagine being so shocked about the ambush that you didn't think to take him aside. Your friend ambushed you after you explicitly said not to bring anyone, and you reacted. Could you have handled it better? Probably, but hindsight is 20/20, we always think of the better way to handle things after the fact. Would it be possible to find
