Viral Video of Cuddling Pigs Wiggling Their Ears Causes Debate On Treating Your "Meat" Like Pets

A group of sweet piglets huddle up under a heat lamp on a farm and insane cuteness ensues. Every time the farmer comes to them and sweets talk them or calls to them, nothing moves but they're cute little ears. All ears wiggle at the same time and nothing else. The cuteness is breaking the internet and the video is insanely viral. Already with over 3 million views, this video is the newest and cutest animal video to take over the cyber universe. 

The content creator, TikToker @fisshsouup, is a farmer in the Appalachian mountains. She's posted about her pigs and piglets before and would appear to be a pig farmer, raising these plumpy guys for meat. Because of her occupation and the eventual destiny of these piggies, a heated discussion on how she's treating this livestock is blowing up within the comment section. 

Piggy Ear Wiggles:

“Imagine the life they could have if they were being raised in a sanctuary instead of being slaughtered for food,” one commenter posts. “This makes me sad.” Another says, “How are u gonna say all that to them and then eat them?!” 

In the video the woman sweetly calls out to them and says, “I love you” while then calling them “perfect,” “cute,” and “special.” Viewers are quick to ask how she can love something that she intends to butcher. Though many animal lovers are upset by the destiny of these pigs and the “hypocritical” love this farm expresses for them, other viewers are on the side of the farmer. 

Feeding the Pigs:

“Those two things are not mutually exclusive,” another commenter says about loving your livestock as a farmer. “You can love an animal and at the same time recognize its purpose.” And another adds, “I’m glad, she clearly takes good care of the animals that feed people.” Many of these kinds of commenters claim to be farmer's themselves and say the people who are upset with the TikToker just don't understand farming.

Newborn Piglets:

Treatment of livestock has always been a debated subject. Farmers from a few decades ago would say there is no reason to treat your farm animals kindly and that their sole purpose is food. While the more recent decades, farmers and consumers alike, take a gentler approach with techniques like “free-range” and other farming ways that show love to the animals you will eventually consume and make sure they live a happy live until they reach their inevitable end.
