Horses are huge majestical creatures that have been helping humankind for centuries. However, humans have also had a long history of animal abuse. Many horses even today are abused and worked to death. Some “trainers” will still hit and prod their horses to get them to do what they say, and this causes trauma. When animals experience intense trauma from humans constantly, of course they are going to express aggression towards us. Many people will give up on these “aggressive” horses and will simply send them straight to the slaughter house. However, there are rescues created to help these horses that have been given up on.

Allison Smith works for Colby's Crew Rescue in Virginia and is quickly becoming famous on TikTok for the videos of her handling the “scariest” horses with care.

“A misunderstood Belgian mare finds a friend in Ally”

Allison's wife Olivia posts the videos on their TikTok @ohkaytacos of her being simply magical with their horses. One of their most recent videos shows the story of a large mare that was deemed as “nasty.” At the auction, Allison saw this mare constantly being hit and smacked. As she approached the horse, a man pulled her arm telling her that horse was mean. However, Allison wasn't going to leave this horse to get abused any longer.

When she first approached him, the mare seemed scared and ready to attack. However, Allison isn't called the horse whisperer for nothing. She took things slowly, spoke kindly, and respected the horse's boundaries. Eventually, the horse seemed to calm down and eventually allowed her to pet and even hug him. Everyone watching the process was shocked. Obviously, the horse went home with Allison.

This is just the most recent video of Allison saving a “dangerous" horse from its fate to the slaughter house. Another horse they named Colby is also featured often on their TikTok. This horse was also deemed a hopeless cause and was unapproachable. The horse was sent to the slaughter house, but Allison was able to intercept before it was too late. Now, videos of Colby show a happy colt horse dancing around with Allison.

“There are two approaches to training horses, one with force and fear, and one with compassion and understanding," Olivia comments on her post about Allison. “I’ll leave it up to you to decide.”

Many of their followers are inspired by Allison's ability to make even the most notorious “nasty” horses become a happy gentle giant. Their videos truly express that horses aren't mean, they're just scared. They also save other four-legged creatures in need of a safe home, like mules and even poorly bred miniature horses. It's truly amazing what Allison is doing for these animals.
