The people of the United States (save for advanced states of Arizona and Hawaii - and the territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) “lost” an hour on Sunday due to Daylight Savings, which resulted in the usual b*tching and moaning across social media. But just two days later, we've learned that an end to the barbaric practice may actually be in sight. Earlier today it was announced that the US Senate unanimously passed "The Sunshine Protection Act," a bill that would make Daylight Savings time permanent.
The bill, which still needs to face a vote in the house, was proposed by Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, and is a move that Rubio says will reduce crime, prevent pedestrian accidents, and most importantly (for us) ease the effects of debilitating seasonal depression. Another perk would be never having to hear anyone complain about Daylight Savings every year.
Naturally, the news has inspired quite a bit of celebration and jokes - as well as a few dissents.
