Tony Hawk Meets Wesley Snipes at the Oscars, Jokes About Classic Twitter Meme

While the world was spouting discourse and meme-ing the whole Will Smith slapping Chris Rock debacle, something magical happened at the Oscars. Something that also happens to do with memes. We’re talking about the monumental meeting of Tony Hawk and Wesley Snipes.

Hawk tweeted a photo of himself with the Blade actor on the red carpet - complete with the caption of “I was spared. Life is good.”

For those of you who are less versed in Black Twitter, it’s a reference to a classic tweet using an image of Snipes from New Jack City holding up a gun and crying. The tweet reads “when the race war is happening and I gotta kill Tony Hawk.” Tony tickled the internet when he took the time to respond, expressing that he appreciates the hesitation.

Hawk shared an additional photo in his Instagram stories, this one with the text “No War IYKNK.” And damn, does the duo look dapper.

The moments are being received enthusiastically on Twitter, and for good reason. It’s a beautiful moment in Twitter meme history, and it feels good to be in on the joke. It’s also a great palate cleanser after all the garbage takes that have been shoved down our throats in the wake of Will Smith’s breakdown. Here's to having something to celebrate.
