The full trailer for Star Wars VII dropped yesterday and tickets went on sale—enough news to make any Star Wars fanboy giddy with excitement.
But then the trolls decided to come out and play...
Using the hashtag #BoycottStarWarsVII, a handful of accounts complained about the black lead character. This new movie advocates white genocide, they said.
Here are the tweets that started it all...Dozens of thought pieces were written before it was clear this was probably just an elaborate troll activation.
Even though this probably isn't an actual movement, the reactions were pretty priceless.
#BoycottStarWarsVII folks, Lemme get this straight: Wookies, Ewoks & Droids are fine but a BLACK PERSON is a problem? Go home. You're Drunk.— Audra McDonald (@AudraEqualityMc) October 19, 2015
So what you're saying is your gun-toting, Confederate cracker flag waving, loud-chewing family won't be at the movie. #boycottstarwarsvii— Mike Monteiro (@monteiro) October 20, 2015
TBH, 4chan was probably behind this.At least we hope that is the case.
