Unfortunately, sled dogs in Canada are subjected to atrocious treatment and Fern Levitt, a dog activist who also makes films, is looking to put an end to their suffering. Via: Goodfullness
They are forced into storage and this is certainly no way for a dog to live. The dogs remain exposed to the heat throughout the summer and are given zero protection from the elements and it is a heartbreaking scene. Any sane person can see that this is animal abuse. Just take a look at the dogs' faces. They are miserable and understandably so. Just imagine what it would be like to be forced to remain outdoors as the temperatures continue to rise.
This is because they are shackled with short chains that do not allow freedom of movement. There are no laws to keep Chocpaw Expeditions from doing what they are doing. The dogs are given food, water and some form of shelter (however insufficient it may be).
She is currently engaged in battle with the Ontario SPCA and her goal is to force this organization to do more. The fact that this atrocious treatment isn't technically breaking any laws does not make it okay.
For their part, the OSPCA claims to be working with the owner of this company to right these wrongs. An investigation is open and they are working to ensure that the dogs receive the care that they need. Now that the truth is being shared, it is time for us to do our part. Please take the time to share this story and spread awareness about the abuse that these dogs are experiencing.
