Women on Twitter Point out Major Flaws with Well-Meaning Consent Condom

Women on twitter are poking holes in the consent condom. The logic for this product isn't exactly airtight. There were a range of criticisms, from the more theoretical to the pragmatic, to the more ridiculous. We don't think this product will become commonplace.

Text - Holly Baxter @hollyb4xter Follow OK so I have seen & taken the piss out of a LOT of products in my time but the Consent Condom is definitely the worst one I've seen in 2019 so far. Doubt that many potential rapists are going to be foiled by this 'Consent Condom' Requires Four. It takes two to tango-and open this package of condoms. A new "Consent Pack" requires four hands (or eight.. geek.com

Text - Holly Baxter @hollyb4xter Follow The worrying thing is that this frames consent as a 'discussion' and implies that the real issue is that women might make it up/exaggerate after consensual sex. This is a product designed essentially to protect men from rape accusations, not to protect women from rape

Text - Holly Baxter Follow @hollyb4xter I feel like we see this a lot when we talk about consent - products and strategies devised (usually by men) which address the problem of 'women saying they get raped rather than 'women experiencing sexual assault'. I know it's an ad agency gimmick but that still matters

Text - Julia Pugachevsky jaypugz Follow I know this is probs just a way to try and go viral but: 1. This dumbs down the idea of healthy communication re: sex in a harmful way 2. It's the condom equivalent of dudes asking for recorded videos of consent 3. Putting on a condom automatic consent of all sexual activity
