O for Pete's sake! Alzheimer's/Dementia patients (& others) should NEVER be housed with people who just need help with day-to-day activities. The one place I worked in had a special lock-down wing for them. The people who simply needed help lived in the main part of the building. There were a lot of wheelchairs & walkers, but at least they wouldn't try to run over each other......They had bathrooms in the rooms for the residents to have their showers, but we had 2 - 4 shower rooms per floor for those who couldn't navigate their own bathrooms. I wish you were down here! I might not work in the facility where you'd live, but I'd BE there several times a week to make sure things were done RIGHT!! I'd love to see you in a place like one of the places I worked. Each resident had their own small apt. Some were just the bedroom with a sitting area & kitchenette-type area. Others were set up with a living room, bedroom, kitchenette & full bathing area. That facility had a huge dining room (with linen tablecloths & napkins). It was really nice. Even the last one I worked in was decent......two rooms shared a bathroom & there were usually two residents per room. That facility had our Alzheimer's/dementia patients mixed together, but everybody on staff were required to keep an eye out on them. If any got violent/aggressive, they were invited to live elsewhere. There's PLENTY special about you, Phyllis. You're YOU!!! And I luv you, too! I'm Pam, but almost everybody calls me Grammy these days. {{{HUGZ}}}

.....con't.......As I get older & less able to handle the folks who need a lot of physical help, my boss says he'll give me "companion care" clients where I'll just be needed to *be* there for them. It was only after I started working with him that I was able to afford my own computer & internet services, so I know what you mean about what you've gotten is stuff you actually needed to have all along. I was living in a house that was close to falling in around my ears & after I got to working with him, I was able to afford to get a decent apt in an upscale complex without worrying about where the rent was every month. After working for so long for so little, I was happy to have my bills paid & have a little left over. When my son-in-law lost his job last year, I was able to allow them to move in with me & help them out. We recently got a 3-bedroom apt in the same complex & I have the master bedroom/bathroom for myself & my two kittehs. (Their pics are in my pictures, along with pics of my 3 g'kids) I've used up a lot of what I'd saved, but my s-i-l finally has a decent job & they've started helping with the bills. My daughter is sort-of overprotective of me & insists on me continuing to live with them even when they find/build a house of their own. I'm independent to a fault (read: 'stubborn'), so I'll be interested to see how *that* will turn out. *grin* So yeah, I can identify with your being happy & proud of getting things the way you want them & how you'd like them to be. It's always a relief to know things are gonna be okay as they can be. I got an HDTV with some of my tax return this past year. My old tv was a charity shop rescue.......nice, big screen but huge & taking up a lot more space than I could spare. Now it's taking up space in my closet! LOL! I'm SO glad you found us!!! I saw Winnie & Phil talking about how great you are & the rest is history! ;) Those two are a couple of my closest friends here. Phil is past wonderful.......as I'm sure you have found out for yourself. He always has me feeling like a giggling schoolgirl. You have a great day! I've got to finish up here before my relief gets here. I'll be home by about 10 ~ today's payday & I have some stuff to do before I go home to get on my other computer. LOVE YOU!! {{{HUGZ}}} ps> sorry I was so long-winded. Hope your eyes hold up to read my "book". *grin*

I'll go through my retired collectibles & send you anything else I can. Yeah the state-run facilities are not all that great. I worked at a state-run facility years ago. They had a half-way house for non-violent offenders there & the "inmates" handled the housekeeping, laundry & cooking. Some of those girls even managed to take courses to become CNA's & join the staff. There was a lot of corruption, etc, going on there the few years I was working. The cook was running a catering service out of the kitchen & a detail shop out the back door of the kitchen (we ALL let them clean our cars) ~ the activities director got charged with embezzlement.......all this came to the surface about 6 months after I'd moved on to my first job as a Night Supervisor at an Assisted Living facility. One of the nurses I worked with @ the state home sorta "poached" me away from there. He really liked my attitude & knew he wanted me on his staff. It took him about 2 months to talk me into it......but I never looked back. It was there that I formed my friendship with my present boss (& great good friend) about 12 years ago. He & I have been through a LOT together as well. I worked at two other facilities as supervisor ~ our healthcare community is sort of tight-knit here & everybody knows everybody else or knows their friends....*grin* I moved to the second assisted living facility when the administrator of the first moved on & got settled there at the second. She put me in as supervisor of the Alzheimer's/Dementia unit & overseer of the other part where the folks who just needed assistance were. Once I learned my buddy had finally gotten his Administrator license & was running a facility very close to my house, I went to work with him. He left there after about 2-3 years to start a private duty homecare service & I was his first employee. I'm now making 3x what I did in the facilities & have a fraction of the workload. He knows I've been doing this for 20+ years & am ready for a break. My client is an 80 year old Alzheimer's victim. She's very sweet, but needs round the clock care. I work 4 pm until 8 am. 16 hours a day/4 days a week. Once we go upstairs for the night, my time is pretty-much free. I get her settled in bed & she stays there all night except for when I get her up around 2 & again at 5 to go to the bathroom. I can catnap ~ actually have my own bedroom here ~ I just have to listen out for her in case she gets up in the night.......con't......

Phil-Tudor has wonderful artistic skills with computer graphics. If you go and look at the LoLs he makes you'll see. I don't have a clue what he looks like but all us ladies love to flirt with him. He has such a good heart and gentle soul coupled with a great sense of humour.
