I can't remember the first time I was told that "curiosity killed the cat" but it was probably by my mother. The petite neurotic woman was convinced that at any moment something terrible was about to happen to one of her brood. While it's been many years since I realized the adage was antithetical to a rich and full life, it wasn't until this Tumblr thread that I realized there was more to the proverb. As it turns out, the phrase is not meant to ward off healthy curiosity. The thread doesn't stop the splainin' there, either. We've never felt more sure of ourselves regarding the use of tired proverbs. Knowledge truly is power.
