I wanted to love Star Wars Battlefront II when it came out. I really did.
When it dropped in 2017, it looked gorgeous. It sounded like Star Wars. It even felt like Star Wars, for a minute. But then you hit the grind. And the loot boxes. And the microtransactions so aggressive they made actual Sith Lords look subtle. This game felt like it was slipping quickly into the dark side.
It was heartbreaking. I was ready to make this game my entire personality, and instead, I bounced hard.
But here we are, in 2025, and Battlefront II is having the glow-up of a lifetime. Lobbies are full. Steam charts are spiking. People are coming back and saying, "Wait, this game's actually amazing now?"
And you know what? They're kind of right.
EA and DICE (slowly, painfully) fixed what they broke. The progression system is bearable, the content is rich, and the gameplay has that rare magic that actually makes you feel like you're in the middle of a full-blown galactic war. And for an 8 year old game? It looks amazing!
Yes, there's still no crossplay. Yes, it took way too long. But Battlefront II is alive, thriving, and—dare I say—finally worth playing again. If you're a lapsed fan or a total newcomer, now's the time to jump back in.
And naturally, with all this renewed interest, the calls for Battlefront III have come roaring back louder than a TIE fighter flyby. Petitions are popping up again. Subreddits are flooded with demands for a sequel. The Battlefront community wants more - and they've made it clear they're not ready to let the dream go. Unfortunately, history hasn't been kind to the number three in this franchise. Free Radical's Battlefront III was canceled back in the 2000s. DICE tried to pitch another sequel post-Battlefront II, but EA reportedly shut it down due to licensing costs. And now, with DICE deep into Battlefield 6, the odds aren't looking great. But if this surge in players proves anything, it's that the hunger is still there, and maybe more powerful than ever.
It's the comeback no one predicted—but every Star Wars fan deserves.
