So here's the deal: nearly seven years after his death, Stan Lee - the legend, the myth, the eternal cameo king - is coming back to comic con… as a hologram. Yup, at this year's L.A. Comic Con (Sept. 26–28), you'll be able to walk into a 1,500 ft² "Stan Lee Experience" booth, pay $15–$20, and have a short conversation with a fully AI-powered Stan Lee hologram.
For a little extra cash, you can even take a selfie or have a 3-minute one-on-one with digital Stan.
Now before you yell "Life Model Decoy" in horror, let's pause. Because as weird as this all sounds - and it does sound weird - I actually think Stan himself might have loved this. This kind of things is right up his ally. Being able to keep his 'Stan's Soapbox' alive even after he is gone - I think Stan would approve.
According to the folks behind it, they're not just feeding random prompts into a deepfake machine. They're using decades of real footage and voice recordings, and they promise not to put any words in his mouth that he wouldn't have said. So no Stan Lee NFT pitches. No metaverse crypto collabs. Just good ol' Stan being Stan.
And honestly? If this means new generations of fans can experience some version of what it felt like to meet Stan at a convention - even for a moment - maybe it's not the worst thing.
But also… we are living in a Black Mirror episode and we all know it.
Anyway, the hologram might even show up unexpectedly to intro a few panels, so if you're heading to L.A. Comic Con this year - be prepared. Stan is watching. And possibly talking to you.
Whether you love it, hate it, or just feel weird about it… one thing is clear: the Marvel legend really is forever.
