There is this misconception about cats… people say that cats are aloof, that cats don't really care, that cats only "like" us because we give them food. They say that cats are not friendly, that they don't love, and- "look, I met a cat once on the street, and it didn't give me all of its love and attention right away, so cats are awful pets." These people don't understand. They don't get that some cats need time until they show their affection, that there are some cats who could take days or weeks or months until they let you cuddle them for the first time, that some cats need you to prove to them that you deserve their love.
Eventually, with enough love and space (and some treats), your "aloof" cat will show you affection. And after that, it's forever. Because when cats love their humans, they love them hard. And we promise that all that time that you invested in getting there will be worth it.
