The Muppets Are Coming Back and Honestly We Need Them Right Now

I don't say this lightly, the world could really use the Muppets again.

Disney just dropped the first teaser for The Muppet Show returning, and the feeling it gave me was immediate and very specific. Warm. Familiar. Soft. Like being wrapped in felt and vaudeville energy at the same time. Kermit's back. Miss Piggy's back. The chaos is back. The gentle, self-aware absurdity that somehow made jokes for kids and adults at the exact same time is finally returning to center stage.

What made The Muppet Show special was never just the characters. It was the tone. The understanding that everything was a performance, that the show knew it was a show, and that sincerity and nonsense could coexist without irony poisoning the whole thing. The Muppets never talked down to their audience. They invited you in, made fun of themselves, and then somehow landed a joke about the human condition using a frog and a pig.

Seeing them return now feels right. In a media landscape obsessed with reboots that forget why things worked in the first place, the Muppets are one of the few franchises that actually thrive on being timeless. Jokes about showbiz, egos, failure, friendship, and trying your best even when everything is on fire are always relevant.

I don't need them to be edgy. I don't need them to be modernized to death. I just need Kermit trying to keep the show together while everything collapses around him. That's evergreen content.
