In St. Louis, lawyers Mark and Particia McCloskey found themselves once again a viral couple on the internet, but this time for slightly different reasons. Last time, people were amazed by their meticulous restoration of their mansion to it's former glory. This time, during nationwide protests seeking significant change, the couple caught the ire of Twitter and the internet overall. It spawned both an intense discourse, and a lot of great memes.
Further videos showed the protesters entered a private community without permission, so the situation is not all that it seems. In the context of what happened, it is more understandable that these homeowners, who spent years restoring their house to it's former glory, might overreact.
What do you think should have happened? Who is in the right here?
Protesters planning on picketing outside the home of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson after her remarks during a Facebook Live session were caught by surprise. Initially, as the protesters were passing through, it seemed like the couple were brandishing rifles at protesters on the sidewalk. This lead to a great deal of outcry due to their behavior, as well as an intense online discussion on their gun handling and who was in the right.
However, further video coverage found that the protesters entered a private and gated community through a side entrance. This in an of itself is an issue that could warrant those homeowners acting in such an aggressive way. According to the law, gated communities roads are considered private, not public, so entering the area is problematic from the get-go.
The internet being the internet couldn't help but turn the couple into a number of memes and jokes.
