Red flags can be spotted in basically any environment. In friendships, in university curriculums, in relationships, in dating apps, and definitely in job descriptions. Red flags are spotted for a reason. Often times we don't notice them the first time around. Sometimes they are positioned directly in front of us but we subconsciously disregard the clear and familiar signs. But hey, perhaps it's important for us to really see how sh*tty things are going to be for ourselves, otherwise, we will live with the regret of never knowing 100%. Or, maybe we just actually like getting screwed over from time to time, just to feel something. We'll never know, will we?

We don't know if it is official job switching season, or if something is just in the air, but we've noticed a lot of people sharing their career advice online. With an emphasis on what we all ought to avoid, and if you're anything like us, you'll take all of the guidance you can get to try to make sure you don't consistently get screwed by capitalism with every single new position.

Let's get into some of these red flags now, shall we?

Red Flags Part 1

Let's summarize these:

  1. For those who thrive in a fast-paced/highly stressful environment
  2. Must be willing to wear multiple hats/willing to step up and take leadership.
  3. Great to gain experience - Opportunities for growth!

Are any of these familiar to you? Yeah… It's a bit troubling.

This next one actually takes us through a real job description, and simply points to exactly what we need to avoid.

Red Flags Part 2

Let's summarize these:

  1. Culture: Work hard play hard -
  2. Personality: Thick skin / Sense of humor
  3. We are ‘fun loving’ company
  4. Virtual pizza parties?

Not much to say about those, let's continue.

Red Flags Part 3

Let's summarize these:

  1. ‘A fast-paced environment’
  2. We have a great culture
  3. Self-starter / work independently
  4. Must have passion

And we'll throw in one more, because why not?

Red Flags Part 4

Let's summarize these:

  1. No benefits mentioned
  2. We're like family here
  3. Flexible hours
  4. Work hard play hard

Clearly, there are a lot of common things to look out for. Best of luck to anyone currently searching!
