Beanie Feldstein, star of Booksmart and Ladybird, announced yesterday that she would be leaving the Broadway revival of Funny Girl earlier than initially planned. She started with a 1-year contract, but it was recently announced that she and former Glee star Jane Lynch would depart on September 25th. She cited "the production [deciding] to take the show in a different direction" as her reason for leaving even earlier, now departing from the role on July 30th. Bad reviews were initially thought to be the reason for Feldstein's departure, but this statement implies that it's something much bigger than that.

Since the Funny Girl revival was announced, people have been speculating about Glee star Lea Michele's reaction to the production. Her Glee character Rachel Berry played the role of Fanny Brice on Broadway, and per her reputation for being a carbon copy of her character, many former gleeks assumed that she was bothered she was snubbed for the role. Many people strongly speculated that Lea Michele was the "different direction" Feldstein cited.

As this drama emerged, the meme machine was fully up and running, with people making hilarious jokes about Lea Michele's potential casting concerning her reputation as difficult to work with, her rumored illiteracy, and the shady circumstances under which Beanie Feldstein was likely fired.

Today at 1 PM, the team from Funny Girl announced that Lea Michele would be taking over the role of Fanny Brice, and Tovah Feldshuh would take over for Jane Lynch's character starting September 6th. Until then, Julie Benko, the standby for the role of Fanny, will take on the part.

This is a wild example of how memes can become reality. Lea Michele is one of the most memed actresses alive today, and the fact that the memes about her have manifested into reality is truly a sight to behold.
