Getting dumped any time of the year is unfortunate, but on or around Valentine's Day certainly makes the sting a little more intense. But you are not alone! We have teamed up with The Single Society to bring you eight unfortunate stories of people breaking up with their significant other JUST in time for Valentine's Day.
I was dating a guy for about four months and I thought it was going somewhere. Valentine's Day rolled around and I figured we would do something together. Two days before though he hadn't even mentioned it. Thinking he may have just forgotten about it I asked if he had plans for Thursday (or whatever day it was that year). He told me he was going to watch a hockey game with friends. When I reminded him it was Valentine's Day he ghosted me. After four months I literally never heard from him again.
My girlfriend always told me she didn't like to make a big deal out of 'Hallmark' holidays. I planned to make a nice dinner at my apartment and have some flowers waiting for her. Before she even came over she said she felt like I hadn't put any effort into things because she didn't receive flowers at work and was embarrassed. She also was pissed we weren't going out to eat.
I made reservations at a really nice restaurant to take my girlfriend of almost a year. She just didn't show up. I was really worried thinking something happened to her until she texted me that it just wasn't working out. I ended up just having dinner by myself and the manager actually ended up picking up the tab for me because he figured I got dumped.
My boyfriend of 10 months texted me the day before Valentine's Day and told me he thought we should see other people for a while, but wanted to tell me before Valentine's Day because he didn't want me to expect him to send me flowers.
I saw on my husband's credit card statement that he had spent some money at Victoria's Secret. It was a week before Valentine's Day so I pretended I didn't see it so I didn't ruin the surprise. Apparently, he had to go out of town for work on Valentine's Day, so I figured we would celebrate the weekend after. We celebrated, but he never gave me the lingerie. A week later he dropped the bomb that he was leaving me for one of the interns at work.
I turned on my wife's location services on her phone when she started acting strange. She told me her friends were doing a Galentine's day on Valentine's Day celebration and she wanted to go. When I tracked her location she was at her boss's house.
I'd been casually dating a guy online for a month. We were deciding on when to see each other next and I said 'are you free Thursday?' That Thursday just so happened to be Valentine's Day but I didn't realize it. He texted me a few hours later and told me he thought I was moving too fast and that it was kind and weird that I suggested we go out on Valentine's Day.
