Negligent Parents Leave A Baby Alone In Hotel Room In Viral TikTok

Parents on TikTok have a reputation for giving each other questionable advice. Much like Facebook, the platform serves as a cesspool for parents with increasingly concerning parenting styles to enable each other and stray even further from the beaten path. There's nothing inherently wrong with alternative parenting, but some of their advice crosses the boundary of the most basic tenants of safety.

One such parent is Maru Istomina. She posted a video this week detailing tips and tricks for traveling with a baby. While the video starts normally, it quickly turns toward the dangerous. 

Okay…let's get this straight. She advises parents to ask the hotel to provide a crib. Love that! Stunning! No notes!!! But immediately afterward, she tells parents that leaving a sleeping baby unattended is acceptable so long as you have a security camera watching it? What? Imagine thinking leaving a baby alone in a hotel room is remotely okay?  I watch my dogs from a security camera when they are in the kennel, but even they are being watched by someone. This baby is all on its own. 

Commenters were rightfully upset and confounded by this video. While some thought it might be a joke (The robot voiceover saying, “bye baby” was hilarious), many others were incredibly concerned. Some were reminded of the kidnapping case of Madeleine McCann, who was taken from a hotel room in Portugal while her parents were eating dinner nearby. 

It seems as if common sense is a character trait often lost on people these days. So if you need someone to spell it out for you, I will. Do not leave a baby unattended!!! Ever! All a security camera will do is bide a little time before a potential disaster. Get a sitter, take the baby, or leave the baby with a sitter outside of your tropical destination. It's really that simple.
