There's a reason people tell you never to meet your heroes. Your favorite actors, comedians, and directors will always be a worse version of what you build them up as in your mind. Many celebrities live in their fans' consciousness as not only perfect artists but also perfect people. Even when you feel you're giving your favorite artist the praise and accolades they deserve, they might take that as creepy, too much, or just plain wrong. The third case is what happened this week between former Buzzfeed cartoonist Adam Ellis and horror director & 'Key and Peele star Jordan Peele.
Yesterday, Adam Ellis posted that, in his opinion, Jordan Peele is the greatest horror movie director of all time. The director is best known for his movies ‘Get Out', ‘Us,’ and his newest flick ‘Nope,’ which will be released this weekend.
In a wild turn of events, Peele responded to the tweet and vehemently disagreed with Ellis's take, claiming that John Carpenter fits the criteria of having three great horror movies released in a row.
Before Peele responded, Ellis stated that while he liked John Carpenter's movie “Halloween,” he didn't think his other films were very good, citing Rotten Tomato scores.
A large group of Twitter users agreed with Peele, memeing about how Ellis's tweet was corny and just plain false.
Twitter is such a beautiful place because it can bring artists closer to the numerous dogsh*t takes about their work that are spread daily. Although we all stan Jordan Peele, there's a wealth of horror classics that did not come out in the last 10 years that also deserve the utmost respect and adoration.
