Our hearts go out to anyone who has to muddle through shifts at a call center. Customer service is no easy job — the person on the other end of the line doesn't care how tired the employee is or how many other similar phone calls they've fielded that week, just that their problem is fixed. Along the way, this disconnect manifests itself in individuals who completely forget how to carry themselves like decent human beings. In one example of a widespread phenomenon, Reddit user u/beerbellybegone posted to r/MaliciousCompliance to share a story of a friend who encountered a particularly frustrated customer over an internet outage on their mobile device.
Even though the call center employee quickly realized the customer had accidentally turned off their mobile data, the caller insisted they be compensated for their lost internet time — a whopping 20 minutes. If you are not familiar with r/MaliciousCompliance, there's a reason this post wound up on this particular subreddit: the community is all about celebrating frustrating requests filled, but not in the way someone wanted.
If this post got you going, then definitely check out this post about a customer who demanded a plain omelette, and was then furious that it was just plain eggs.
