Encountering a generational gap in the workplace seems like a tricky subject to deal with for companies. People of different generations have different values, views, and cultural references they use to view the world around them, and perhaps there is no better example of how wires can get crossed than this Reddit post by u/jesseberdinka. This user posted to the popular subreddit r/tifu to share a story of making what he thought was a well-known pop culture reference to a 1980s candy commercial in a meeting, only to find out that the person he made the reference to actually thought he was making a sexually-charged comment.
Thankfully, it seems everyone in this situation handled this as best as possible, and the OP was mortified to find out someone thought he was making an inappropriate comment instead of a fun commercial reference. OP writes that ultimately, everyone was able to laugh it off and think of the incident as a learning moment, but it did seem to leave the OP wondering how he should behave in the office moving forward.
