Man oh man, all of the world's maniacal managers really need to check themselves. You don't mess with a good thing when you have it! Reddit user u/sir_corn posted to r/MaliciousCompliance to share a brutal tale of workplace mismanagement. This company's CEO decided to make the original poster a scapegoat for their open floor plan, "flexible workspace" office being too loud. For some reason, they especially pressed OP on this issue, despite the fact that they say they were 20 years old when this happened and by far the youngest employee at the company. Unsurprisingly, the more the company's CEO cracked down on OP and his colleagues' freedom even in a "flexible workspace," the less this Reddit user invested his own time into his work. Eventually, they tried reversing course, but it was too late — when you show employees you don't trust or appreciate them, they will lose any trust or appreciation they had for you.
It seems well within reason to suggest that this CEO clearly underestimated the importance of celebrating newfound friendships between hard-working employees. Check out another tale of malicious compliance, where a woman outwitted Karen the building manager with a greenhouse workaround.
