In northern Argentina, an incredible national park was created in 2018, one that rivals those all over the world. This park has been described by CNN as "if the Everglades and the Serengeti had a child together". CNN goes on to explain that "Now, international visitors have figured out that there's a watery labyrinth of swamps, bogs and floating islands in northern Argentina ripe for safari-style adventures." We couldn't agree more with this summary, Ibera National Park in Argentina is truly an international treasure, that should be preserved at all costs.
This spectacular park contains Capybaras, or the world's largest rodents, which some loyal readers might remember tried to take over a neighborhood in Argentina this year. However this park also contains even more spectacular creatures such as Giant River Otters, Rhea Birds, and other incredible species that are found only in this region of the world. The spectacular Igazu Falls also lie nearby this destination, so if you pay this national park a visit, be sure to also visit other attractions nearby.
Giant otters are an endangered species globally, but after decades of absence in Argentina, three giant otter cubs were born in the Iberá Park, thanks to the efforts being promoted by the Corrientes government, the National Parks Administration and the Rewilding Argentina Foundation. The giant otter or choker wolf is the largest species of otter in the world: an adult specimen can reach 1.8 meters and weigh 33 kilos. (source)
"Over the past few years the park has begun re-introducing wildlife that had largely become extinct due to years of ranching and pine plantations. Re-introduced animals include the giant anteater (as pictured here), pampas deer (now home to the largest population in Argentina), black collared peccaries, bare-faced cursors, green-winged macaws, red-legged seriemas and a pair of giant river otters. Next on the list is incredibly important for establishing balance in the ecosystem. Jaguars. Not only are Jaguars vital for the eco-system but they also play a role in drawing tourists to the area for nature-tourism, a vital cog in the conservation wheel." (source)
